OLIVIER PAVIC

Oliver Pavic is a self-taught artist with an architectural background. Born in 1986 in Slovenia (formerly Yugoslavia), he grew up in an atmosphere imbued with post-Tito nostalgia and the looming proximity of the Balkan War, all the while nurturing dreams of freedom inspired by the Western world. He began his architectural studies in Ljubljana, the Slovenian capital, before completing his education in London, where he qualified as an architect. In 2008, his encounter with the Francis Bacon retrospective at Tate Britain profoundly altered his path. Driven by an irresistible need for artistic expression, he moved to France, and in 2015 established his studio in the Champagne region, thus beginning his journey as a painter.

Oliver Pavic’s works unfold as a subtle alchemy between ancient heritage and contemporary vitality, nourished by his dreams, the currents of contemporary events, and his lifestyle. He reclaims the ideas of the past and confronts them with present realities, weaving a unique tension between these two temporalities. Past and present merge and challenge each other, shaking our perception of time, oscillating between realism and abstraction, where “yesteryear” and “today” intertwine in a delicate dance the viewer must themselves harmonize.

Oliver’s inspiration springs from everyday life, infused with his memories and dreams. His figures, evocative of Bacon’s tormented universe, are hurled with visceral force into dreamscapes reminiscent of David Lynch, laid bare before the viewer, who is invited to engage in their own interpretation.

A renowned artist, his work is represented in galleries in Denmark, Mauritius, and London.
